KoaSeeds...
Wood is a major object of income, and koa is always in demand. And, things begin with seeds, whether seeds for trees or seeds for ideas. Real koa seeds were offered for sale on the original site, although they weren't guaranteed to grow. See some items made from locally grown wood in Bob's Photo Album.

There's a hodge-podge of information here as this site has been a progressive collection of information for Bob (RW Butts) and Linda (Windward Wahine) in addition to a collection of trivia.

Some things you'll find here began their life on a Commodore 64 computer, like the wood list, later transferred to an Apple MacPlus, where the original site's images were drawn in Aldus Freehand. Things were transferred again to a Macintosh Quadra, where image editing (photographs) was begun (slow!). It was on the Quadra that KoaSeeds.com found life, then continued with updates on a G3 Powerbook. Everything was tested on several browsers, including Mosaic (remember that one?), which was great for testing the HTML, but wasn't sophisticated enough to handle jpegs.

Some of the images, like the images in this photo album were digitized by a commercial service then manipulated on the Quadra with Macromedia xRes, an early image editor no longer supported. Adobe's Photoshop is currently used for most of the image editing, and Macromedia Fireworks for most of the final output for the web (it makes smaller files.)

Ever hear of WorldWideWebWeaver by Miracle Software? That was the software first used for KoaSeeds.com. It was excellent as both an HTML editor and a way to learn HTML. There were little buttons to click for basic code, and the workspace was only text &code. It was most useful used beside BBdit as it was usually easier to just type in the tags than move the mouse way over there to click on something.

WorldWideWebWeaver hasn't been upgraded for several years, but it continues to live on my computer. I've even left it in the soure code as the HTML generator. After trying several HTML editors (all for the Macintosh, of course), I found Macromedia's Dreamweaver most preferable and it is the current HTML software of choice. It provides both a WYSWYG (useless for scripting) and the option for only code view, which is sometimes easier.

KoaSeeds.com has been completely revamped on a G4 dual processor Macintosh using Jaguar. Some of the previously-included information on the site has been omitted (:-() some new things added. Fetch is the still the application used to upload everything. Safari, Apple's browser, has been added to the other browsers for testing.

Enjoy your visit!
